GMAT: it is held throughout the year, the applicants can book an exam slot for self from the announced calendar as per their convenience. The candidates can also re-take the test five times inside 12 months. A maximum of eight attempts are permitted to any candidate in his/her lifetime.
CAT: this test is held only once a year. CAT application procedure starts in August and the exam takes place in the last week of November or first week of December.
Exam Pattern
GMAT: the question paper has MCQs from Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Integrated Reasoning and an Analytical Writing Assessment. The applicants can pick the order in which they want to answer each section.
CAT: CAT exam takes place in online mode for three hours in two sessions on a scheduled date. The applicants are required to follow the chronology of the question paper. Neither can candidates decide to answer the part of their taste, nor will they return to queries rendered incomplete earlier. The CAT query paper is composed of MCQs and also a couple key-in answers type questions.
