Styling the Floral Dress for Spring

Spread the love

With the weather warming up and snow melting away, it’s time for everyone to start pulling out their lighter, brighter clothing. Some of that clothing includes all of your floral clothes, including the ever versatile floral dress. Be it a sun dress, maxi dress, or anything in between, it’s time for those flowers to shine.

Styling the Floral Dress for Spring

For all of its glory, however, your floral dress is raising questions in your mind. How are you going to style this single piece of clothing? Should you get something updated? The answers to these and other questions are easy to answer.

Replacing your dress?

The first thing that may come to mind is getting the hottest new patterns for spring. There is nothing wrong with this, especially if your clothes have been through some wear and tear. A piece that has holes, ripped seams, or threadbare fabric that is one tug from ripping should be replaced. While burst seams can be stitched back up with by hand or machine, it’s difficult to repair fabric that is ripped. This requires patching, which may not be an option.

While those who enjoy redesigning their clothes can still get use out of these pieces, most people would rather replace it. If the dress cut and fit is no longer in fashion and it doesn’t make you feel like you are at your best, this is another signal to replace the clothing. There are many good pieces out there, such as this one: https://www.aurathelabel.com/products/blush-floral-wrap-dress (which I have my eye on!)

Styling

Now here is the fun part: giving your outfit your signature touch. There are many ways to do this. Listed below are the things you need to get that stylish look. We’ll divide it up into a few categories: jewelry, scarves and sweaters, belts, and hats.

Jewelry

Since you are already wearing a print, choose your jewelry based on the color and size of your print. Larger prints means statement pieces may make you look cluttered. If you are wearing a large print, make use of plain, delicate pieces. Smaller prints, especially those that are more spread out, may allow for larger pieces. In this case I would still keep it on the smaller side.

Scarves and sweaters

While it might sound like I’m still thinking about winter, a sweater is practical in spring. A light weight cardigan can guard against chilly breezes and cool mornings. In a similar vein, a silky scarf can add a bit of flare to your outfit. Keep your colors lighter–a darker color may absorb more light and make it too warm. If you’re into boho style, a shawl makes for a great addition with the option of later using it around your waist if it becomes too warm to wear the shawl.

Belts

Using a belt can help to create a dividing line across the body, which can help to break up larger prints. Here, go with something a bit wider if you do have large prints. A narrower belt makes a better compliment with smaller print. Treat your belt like a piece of jewelry when deciding if you would like to use a statement belt.

Hats

If you’re someone who loves to use a hat like me, here’s a few tips. Ditch the winter beanie for something a little shapelier. Straw hats usually are dusted off in the spring. A Trilby or crocheted brim hat are other options. A Ball cap may not be a good choice if dressing up.

Another option for headwear can be headbands and floral crowns. Choose a color that compliments your dress for hair pieces. Real floral crowns are often gifts, so anything goes there. Same with artificial flowers, but make sure that you’re using spring flowers.
