The most exciting and famous television series of all times; Game of Thrones aired its final episode on Sunday, 19th May 2019. Many expectations were attached to the final eight season but when it aired, it brought many disappointments with it. The last episode of the final season was a massive disappointment too. The fans of game of thrones felt that this season the directors had rushed the story just for it to end with bad writing.
This show first aired on April 17th, 2011 and till its final season, the fan base had extended internationally and many memories were attached to it. After the end of season 7, there was so much hype about the last season and many fans were expecting something great to happen. They waited two years for it only to see the strong storyline being crumpled down to slopping writing, bad lighting, bad endings to the character and a rushed ending. There were so many disappointing scenes revealed in the last season such as:
Death of the Night King
One of the most disappointing scenes of this season was the death of the night king. The night king was the strongest villain after Cercei and he had such a huge role. In all of the seasons, the presence and the story of the night king was discussed and he was a character that was so strong from the beginning but the writers killed him off so easily in the last season. Night king was the biggest threat to Westeros, his character was designed in a way and developed through all these seasons as if he was the only big threat that was undefeatable and he was killed in a few hours by arya. Writers never explained who actually the Night king was before when he was just a human and why he wanted to wipe out the whole humanity. Everyone expected Jon snow to kill the night king since all the seasons and episodes foreshadowed how he’s the azor ahai.
Arya – The assassin
It was shown from season 1 how arya was trained into the best assassin out there and she had a list of people that she wanted to kill. This list had all those people that led to the downfall of her family. But in the final season, arya was seen killing no one except for night king while wearing a brown leather jacket and after episode 3 her character had been watered down which was not expected at all from the fans.
Jon Snow – Not being the King
It was showed from season 1, how Jon snow was the right person to sit on the throne all along. Not because of how his character was portrayed but because of his ancestors. He was not the illegitimate son of Ned stark and was actually a targaryen. He was meant to be the king all along and the prince that was promised but in the final episode of the final season after everything was back to normal, they made Bran the king and send Jon snow back to north. Even when in the middle of the season when Jon and Bran reveal to Sansa and Arya about Jon’s real parents, they showed no reactions although it was such important information that was there all long in the whole series. The whole story that was build up through all these seasons about Jon Snow being the promised king went down the drain.
The Prophecies
Another disappointment that the fans faced was related to the prophecies which have been such a big part of this show. Everything on this show was based on prophecies. In the last season, the directors paid no attention to any of the prophecies and ditched them. For instance, there was no mention of the Tyrion Lannister being the valongar and instead of him; it was just the piles of bricks that killed cercei. There was mention of arya being the azor ahai which was highly expected. There were many few other prophecies and powers that were part of the earlier seasons but they all were ditched in the season’s finale.
Dany – The Mad queen
One of the greatest character development that was showed in the show was of Dany and it was shown from the start how she was loving and supporting and could be a just leader but it all came down to nothing. So many fans were seen wearing Game of Thrones Leather jackets just for the show. Fans were hugely disappointed when they made Dany the mad queen and killed her off by the hands of Jon Snow. She was the right queen for the throne after Jon Snow and with her character development, every fan expected her to be the queen but instead, she ended up burning half of the King’s landing.
